Australian Educational Researcher – Announcement of incoming Editor in Chief

AER v2

Associate Professor Stewart Riddle has been appointed the new Editor in Chief of the Australian Education Researcher. Stewart is an Associate Professor (Curriculum and Pedagogy) at the University of Southern Queensland and currently an Associate Editor for the journal (beginning in 2017); he has previously served on the AARE Executive as SIG co-ordinator and more recently as Conference Co-convenor (with Amanda Heffernan). His appointment follows an open call for Expressions of Interest requiring a full application responding to a position description and key selection criteria, and a formal interview process with a selection committee comprising members of the AARE Executive and the AER Editorial Board. The committee commended the high quality of the application and the depth of experience and evident enthusiasm and commitment Stewart will bring to the role.

Stewart will assume the role at the conclusion of Associate Professor Nicole Mockler’s term as Editor in Chief at the end of this year.  During her two terms as EiC, Nicole has ably steered AER, strengthening the calibre and range of the journal and enhancing its excellent reputation. She has also created a vibrant training and education role around the journal and its operation. There will be other occasions to more fully acknowledge Nicole’s many contributions to the journal, and to AARE, but we specifically thank her now for her support during the handover to the new EiC.

We extend warm congratulations to Stewart on his appointment to this significant role within AARE and within the wider field of educational research.
