Conference News

Thank you to all those who attended and participated so enthusiastically at the recent AARE Conference in Fremantle, WA. We were delighted with the feedback we received, particularly in relation to the collegiality of the conference, the venue and particularly the variety of food that was available.

I would like to pay particular thanks to the 2015 Conferences Standing Committee for their wonderful support and tireless efforts in their respective roles towards the success of the conference:

Ms Deborah Cracknell - AARE Office and Events Manager
Ms Debra Cunningham - AARE Executive Management Team Representative
Professor Tracey Bunda - Indigenous Research and Engagement
Associate Professor Sue Saltmarsh - Special Interest Group (SIG) Coordinator
Professor Michele Simons - Treasurer
Dr Anne Coffey - Local Member
Dr Derek Hurrell - Local Member
Ms Sara Weuffen - Postgraduate Student Member
Dr Lisa Papatraianou - Early Career Researcher Member
Dr Amanda Keddie - Awards Coordinator

In particular we are very appreciative of the hospitality shown to us by our colleagues at The University of Notre Dame and particularly Professor Michael O’Neill (Executive Dean), Dr Anne Coffey and Dr Derek Hurrell for their wonderful energy and commitment towards the AARE Conference.

Last year we worked with a new Professional Conference Organiser – International Conferences and Events (ICE) who worked tirelessly to respond to feedback from the 2014 AARE Conference in Brisbane. As the Conference Convenor I have been very impressed with their proactive approach, enthusiasm, clear communication and passion in ensuring our needs were met as fully as possible. I would like to particularly acknowledge Ms Li Mei Giam (Project Manager), Rebekah Toole, Danielle Falso and Peta Freeman for their hard work in preparing for the conference and also for the dedication on-site to respond to a range of delegates’ needs. Feedback from conference attendees indicated an overall positive outcome from the conference, with 90% saying they would recommend the conference to others.

The conference committee are already busily working towards the 2016 AARE Conference with the theme ‘Transforming Education Research’ to be held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from 27 Nov – 1 Dec. This is an exciting venue and its location is certainly in close proximity to a number of wonderful places in Melbourne which are well worth considering when planning your schedule.

The members of the 2016 Conferences Standing Committee are:

Associate Professor Margaret Baguley - Chair
Professor Tracey Bunda - Indigenous Research and Engagement
Ms Deborah Cracknell - AARE Office and Events Manager
Ms Debra Cunningham - AARE Executive Management Team Representative
Dr Abbey MacDonald - Early Career Researcher Member
Associate Professor Mary Lou Rasmussen - Special Interest Group (SIG) Coordinator
Professor Michele Simons - Treasurer
Associate Professor Bernadette Walker-Gibbs - Awards Coordinator
Ms Sara Weuffen - Postgraduate Student Member

We will shortly be opening the call for abstracts for this year’s conference. I look forward to providing updates through the AARE Newsletter as we progress towards this year’s conference.

Margaret Baguley
