This paper reports on the findings of a nation-wide study of the efficacy of enabling programs compared to VET, as a pathway to higher education. This is a collaborative project with researchers from the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education, Curtin University; Federation University; Andrew Harvey La Trobe University and Deakin University.
Efficacy was measured in terms of first-year attrition and success rates in subsequent higher education studies, as well as the perceptions of the students in terms of how the program/pathway prepared them for higher education studies. The results will be discussed with a particular focus of this paper on the experiences of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
