Abstract:
The management of education, of teaching and learning, and of administration, at all levels in an educational institution ultimately determines how well the students can learn. This project examines an attempt to implement one particular approach, Total Quality Management, to the management of teaching, learning and administration in a New South Wales independent secondary school. It traces the program from its genesis to its untimely conclusion, suggests reasons for the lack of success of the program, and provides suggestions for alternative implementation strategies to improve the likelihood of uptake of the program at senior executive level.
