Abstract:
Although many HPETEors in Australia and New Zealand have been advocating for socially critical PETE since the mid 1980's, there continues to be a lack of consensus on what critical pedagogy is and how best to teach from a socially critical perspective. This seminar presents the initial findings from a research project that explored HPETEors understanding and use of socially critical pedagogies in PETE. The six HPETEors interviewed for this study all teach in a PETE ITE programme that is underpinned by a socially critical orientation. The evidence from this study suggests that the HPETEors are all committed to teaching from a humanist perspective yet they have their own understanding and use of socially critical pedagogies that are underpinned by their own valued theoretical perspectives.
