The Griffith University science curricult~n has features unique to tertiary science teaching. Students are not expected to have studied science; There is a common first year, 25% of which is devoted to science, technology and society courses; Students later concentrate their studies on one or two areas of science, but the overlap of the study areas permits students to study coherent components not normally available to science students. In this paper the progress and direction of women enrolled in this programme is reported, the effects of the unique components are noted and the educational implications of the findings are discussed.
