Abstract:
The longitudinal research was focused on one C.A.E. Qualitative data were collected on six issues in the life of the college. The data were analysed to illuminate the location and exercise of power over the selected issues. The data were viewed prin- cipally from the perspective of those staff who were not located within the college's executive arm.

There was evidence of a dysfunctional imbalance of power leading to marked divisions of interests and perspectives. Questions were derived from the data which relate to the outcomes of such a distribution of power and to this pattern of college administration.
