Abstract:
The program CLASS was written in an attempt to combine a simple model of teaching behaviour with a similarly simplified model of pupil response, based on principles of learning and achievement motivation, to produce a working model of teacher-pupil inter- actions during a lesson. This paper presents some details of the theories used and describes some of the properties of the simulation which resulted. It is suggested that the simulation may be used to help teacher-trainees to see teaching as a decision- making activity.
