The professional development of teachers has undergone a change of emphasis in theory, structure and practice. From the outset the objective has been to increase teacher's professional competencies reflecting the need for teachers' aquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes and the transmission of these to the students and their has become increasingly important that theoritical perspectives about professional development must be closely linked to the practice of education as encounterd in the schools.Hence a planned approach to professional development is important since the nature of education and society are rapidly changing.
