Abstract:
Focus: Analysis of current government policies and program aimed at increasing the percentage of administrative positions held by women in the Ministry of Education in Victoria, Australia.

Historically: Legislative, social and economic barriers have limited women's participation in education and opportwlities for promotion.

Current Situation: The number of women in positions in schools and administration is gradually declining. The government has initiated an affirmative action plan, with carefully listed targets, goals, in-service and implementation program. Other equal opportunity programs have been in place since 1974. What have been their achievements, how have they been evaluated, and what effect do they have on education administration and schools?
