Type of paper: Abstract refereed

This study compared the perceptions of Home Economics teacher education Diploma and Degree graduates who have been teaching for one, two or three years. The results of multivariate analysis of variance using length of teaching, academic program and five clusters of teaching competencies yielded no significant differences between the two groups despite the length of teaching. The study highlighted the need to identify personal attributes not affected by the programs undertaken by the students. In addition, teacher educators should clearly specify intended outcomes expected from an additional year of pre-service education rather than giving the students "more of the same".
