Abstract:
During 1985 the Commonwealth Government revised its policy for funding new non-government schools. This paper examines the key features of that policy and the method by which the policy has been implemented. In particular the paper focuses upon the characteristics of proposed non-government schools seeking funding, the characteristics of schools receiving funding, the bases on which funding is allocated and the likely influence upon the enrolment trends in existing government and non-government schools. The paper reports information relevant to the funding of new non-government schools in the period from 1984 and into 1988.
