Abstract:
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Board (VCAB) replaced the Victorian Institute of Secondary Education (VISE) on I July 1986. This new body now controls Year 11 as well as Year 12 curriculum, and will accredit all post-compulsory education. These reforms are part of a larger educational reform within the Ministry of Education undertaken during the last two years.

This paper examines the aims and achievements of VISE, the changes that occurred within post-compulsory Secondary education during this period, and the reasons for the introduction of VCAB.
