Literature on the hidden curriculum is abundant but our understanding of it is limited. The multiplicity of terms used to describe it and the various ideological perspectives scholars hold contribute to the problem. Analyses of this phenomonen using both the micro and macro approaches not only indicate that there is no essential concept of the hidden curriculum, but also suggest that such concept has been used as a vehicle by its proponents to advocate their political ideals in educational practice.
