Two complementary teacher development projects will be reported upon. The Foundations of Number Learning Project (FNLP) aims to support early childhood teachers as they relate the particulars of structured personal encounters with individual children to general principles and findings from research. The Exploring Mathematics in the Classroom project (EMIC) stresses the necessity for teachers to reflect, share, and expand their repetoires of teaching strategies in analogous ways to processes of mathematics learning deemed important in children.
