Biographical and autobiographical research is proposed as a means of researching the personal processes of administrative work. It is argued that such an approach has the unique potential to portray the relationships between character and setting to administrative philosophy and actions, as well as provide for the treatment of situational and structural outcomes of actions. A methodological argument then introduces an exemplar sug- gesting research phases and a checklist for the collection of biographical data.
