The PEEL project (Project for Enhancing Effective Learning) is a two-year action research project at Laverton High School, Melbourne. It involves ten teachers across six faculties and five classes (one Year 7, two Year 9, two Year 10). The aim of the project is to improve the quality of classroom learning by training students to enhance their awareness and control of lesson act- ivities. The research, which involves teachers and students in change and development, extends earlier ethnographic research on classroom metacognition training. Some findings from the first year of the project are reported.
