Abstract:
This presentation reflects on my arts based PhD. It explores and describes immersive art pedagogy (IAP): what it entails, reveals, and contests, as performed across various sites of investigation, and how it evolves through the interconnected identities of artist, researcher and teacher. An emerging model for IAP is presented which further enables the (re)connection of artist, researcher and teacher across research sites. A community art context, an art elective for pre-service educators and personal art making within multi-settings form the basis of these sites of investigation.
The presentation then focuses on how personal art making was captured via a Photo-book format as the preferred genre through which to explore how IAP both inspired and informed the candidate's artwork. In addition the reflexive and a/r/tographic responses to the artworks are explored through a range of narrative layers. An outcome of the study is the evolving IAP model and the concept of Sustaining Creativity and Creating Sustainability through immersive art pedagogy.
