Abstract:

The advancement of technology has impacted the modes, media, and forms of literacy. New media such as computers and mobile devices are embedded in the everyday experiences of many children. Increasing number of researchers (Gee, 2009; Luke, 2010) argue that these experiences are changing the nature and scope of what should be considered as literacy. Preschoolers' backgrounds and home literacy experiences influence the capabilities, interests, and knowledge that they bring with them when they enter school (Beecher, 2010). This study documents, describes and analyzes preschoolers' engagement in multiliteracy practices at home and examines the perspectives of parents toward these multiliteracy practices.
