Abstract:
Papua New Guinea (PNG) has more than 860 languages and over 1000 cultures with its unique belief systems and practices (Grimes, 1992, Nagai, 1999; Nettle & Romaine, 2000). Educational, technological and other influences from the outside world have had minimal impact on these cultures, norms and belief systems as they are deeply rooted in the traditional societies far away from the cities. PNG is predominantly seen as a patriarchal society therefore women's values, beliefs, practices and interests rarely have an equal influence with men.
