Abstract:
Social and Political movements throughout the 1980's have been increasingly impelled by the forces of economic rationalism and corporate managerialism. These imperatives have had a significant impact on the debate about the aims, purposes and organisation of education. The paper is in two parts: Part I examines the characteristics of formula economics and corporate managerialism and their impact on education; Part II uses functional grammar as a framework for discussing the language that proponents of formula economics and corporate managerialism choose in recruiting staff to implement their educational policies.
