Type of paper: Abstract refereed

Abstract:

The study reported in this paper was conducted in order to contribute to a more detailed understanding of the nature of gifted education provision in NSW, and to assist in the development of a critique of this provision. The study was restricted to private schools in view of the following points:

i) the paucity of published information concerning the nature of gifted programs
in private schools in NSW

ii) the availability of information concerning provision in Department of
Education schools

iii) problems of access to Department of Education schools.

The study was further restricted to primary schools since it was felt that
gifted education was more commonly provided in primary schools than secondary schools.
