Abstract:
The Chinese High Pull-Out Gifted Programme is now in its fourth year, with 99 boys from Secondary One to Four. The curriculum for mathematics, science and computer studies are differentiated to promote thinking skills, self discovery and independent learning, particularly in the Mentor-Link (M-L) programme. The M-L programme aims to these in an individualized manner to satisfy the gifted students' personal learning needs and interests. In doing the projects of the M-L programme, the gifted boys attempt to solve real life problems, thus sharpening their learning and thinking skills. At the end of 1995, 52 boys answered a questionnaire on their critical and creative thinking, self acceptance and understanding. This paper focused on the findings of the survey and how the boys viewed themselves as critical and independent thinkers. The findings of the survey would help The Chinese High fine tune its Pull-Out Gifted Programme and determine how the programme could foster critical and independent thinking skills.
