Abstract:
Human interconnectivity across the world has intensified in recent years. Technology has afforded us unprecedented access to information, spectacle and communication. However, our sense of place is being challenged by new orientations that distort our sense of belonging and resist authentic relations within a socio-ecological practice. This presentation details how globalisation has influenced our sense of place and space and invites a discussion as to how the concepts of relationality, transculturality and globality intertwine for educational purposes. Drawing from separate studies of indigenous educational epistemology and the enactment of global citizenship education respectively, the presenters argue for a global sense of space reoriented to support educational initiatives cherishing both our local commitments and our shared, long-term obligations.
