Abstract:
This presentation aims to share the research journey of a team of researchers working on a collaborative project with an Aboriginal school in Western Australia. The project’s objective was to identify themes and principles that lead to a highly effective, supportive educational environment for young children. Through this collaboration, the research team sought to understand and highlight the unique cultural and educational practices that enhanced learning experiences and outcomes for children.
The presentation will begin with a research-based theatre video as an illustration of Arts-based Education methodology. The video serves as a creative and engaging method to illustrate key findings and insights from the project. Following the video, the reflections will include insights from our partner school, including the school principal, Kylie Meredith and her staff, as well as individual reflections from the Curtin Research team. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of the affordances of this methodological approach.
This research contributes in two ways to the conference theme centred around a changing world. Firstly, by identifying themes and principles that are not intended to be a ‘one size fits all” solution but rather to provide a model that opens dialogues relating to quality education in a changing world. Secondly, by providing an example of a methodology that is highly applicable in a changing world where different voices can be brought to life.
