Abstract:
As digital technologies have become increasingly entwined in how literature is circulated and received - and even created - statistical, computational, and algorithmic dynamics have become integral to how we read and write. Drawing on data from the Digital Literary Literacy Pilot project workshops (2021), this paper looks specifically at the affordance of deep learning, topic modelling and geospatial mapping in the secondary literary classroom. Presenters will demonstrate the use of these tools in conjunction with the To be continued….  database of 19th-century newspaper fiction and discuss the implications of digital reading for critical pedagogical approaches in subject English.
