Abstract:
This project uses the Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY) to investigate whether an individual’s background characteristics influence tertiary completion rates. In particular, the project look’s at whether students from low SES have lower completion rates than those who have high SES. The measure of SES used in this paper is an individual measure based on characteristics of the individual’s home when they were aged 15. Other key characteristics include Indigenous status, migrant statues (prior to age 15) and language background other than English.
