Call for Expressions of Interest: Associate Editors, ECR Editor Interns

The Australian Educational Researcher is seeking to appoint up to five new members of the Editorial Team to support the work of the journal in publishing high quality research by and/or of interest to members of the Australian educational research community:

  • Two or three Associate Editors; and
  • Two or three Early Career Researcher Editor Interns.

As part of giving practical voice to AARE’s commitment, articulated in the Association’s Statement of Reconciliation of December 2018, to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to lead research and to form strong research partnerships to foster rigorous research in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and education more broadly, at least one appointee to each role will be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander researcher.

While researchers with expertise in all disciplinary areas, research orientations/traditions and methods are welcome to apply, we seek to maintain a balance of disciplinary and methodological orientations on the Editorial Team, and applications will be particularly welcome from researchers with expertise in quantitative research methods and mixed methods research.

Associate Editors and ECR Editor Interns work collaboratively with the Editor in Chief and Co-ordinating Associate Editor on all aspects of editorial work.

  • On occasion, providing detailed editorial guidance to authors;

  • Making final evaluations of manuscripts and providing recommendations to the Editor in Chief; and
  • Mentoring early career researchers (eg ECR Associate Editor Interns and participants at AER PG/ECR writing workshops) with respect to research writing and academic publishing.

Associate Editors will be appointed for a period of three years.

ECR EDITOR INTERNS

ECR Editor Internships are designed to provide early career researchers based in Australia with the opportunity to learn more about academic journal publishing; to develop and hone editorial skills; and to be mentored in this work by the Editor in Chief and other members of the journal’s Editorial Team. ECR Editor Interns are appointed for a two year period, and ECR Interns carry a lighter load of papers than Associate Editors as they develop their editorial skills.

ECR Editor Interns will:

  • Hold a Doctoral qualification, conferred not before June 2015 (with allowance for career interruption); and
  • Not currently or previously have held an appointment on the Editorial Team of a scholarly journal.

 Responsibilities of ECR Editor Interns, exercised with the guidance and support of members of the Editorial Team, include:
