AARE Special Interest Groups

Social Justice SIG

The Social Justice SIG aims to facilitate communication between researchers and practitioners interested in the provision of schooling and post-compulsory educational opportunities that are accessible and of benefit to all students, especially those from low income, bilingual, Indigenous and other marginalised backgrounds.

Since educational outcomes in Australia are strongly correlated with the socio-economic and cultural backgrounds of students, this SIG supports research aimed at reducing this gap through sustained empirical and theoretical inquiring into policy and practice.

Research interests of members include:

  • Equity in education
  • Indigenous education
  • Gender equity
  • Multicultural education
  • Social Policy
  • School improvement

Proposed Activities:

  • Annual meting SIG members at the annual AARE conference
  • National forum to be convened between conferences
  • Conference strand

Communication between SIG members if facilitated through a Google Group.

Contact the convenor to join the group.
