Welcome to the
Sociocultural and Activity Theory (SAT) SIG
of the Australian Association for Research in Education

Activities

The purpose of the Sociocultural and Activity Theory SIG is to create a space within the Australian Association for Research in Education for educators, researchers, and theorists to engage in an ongoing dialogue and discussion with and about mediated action: socially, culturally, historically, and geographically.

We are interested in sharing theoretical and empirical research that builds upon, supports and/or challenges the work of Vygotsky, Bakhtin, Leont'ev, Luria, Cole, Wertsch, Kozulin, Engeström, Emerson, Holquist, Van der Veer, Valsiner, Lave and others. Sometimes referred to as Cultural Psychology, Sociohistorical Psychology, and the Sociocultural Approach, we aim to explore complex social concerns through transdisciplinary lenses that incorporate perspectives from cultural anthropology, sociology, linguistics, history, philosophy, psychology, geography and literary theory. Innovative approaches to analysing speech genres, and social language and discursive practices in relation to embodiment and materiality, are invited as well.
