AARE Special Interest Groups

The Health and Physical Education (SIG)

The Health and Physical Education Special Interest Group (SIG) aims to bring together academics and researchers with shared interests in research addressing health and physical education, physical activity and sport from educational perspectives. The group therefore includes researchers working across a range of areas within the field of HPE, in all phases of school education, in tertiary education, adult education and broader social settings. The SIG seeks to promote and disseminate work that can inform policy and practice relating to health and physical education, physical activity and sport across Australia and internationally. It was established in partnership with the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation and has strong links with comparable special interests groups internationally, including SIGs within the British Educational Research Association and the American Educational Research Association, and colleagues in Aotearoa New Zealand. Collaborative research is actively encouraged within and beyond the group, which includes researchers at all stages of their careers. The SIG has an annual meeting at the AARE conference and encourages members to present work both within the SIG stream and in other areas of the AARE program.
