Welcome to AARE in 2010.

This year we celebrate 40 years of educational research community in Australia. AARE was founded in 1970, and we currently number over a thousand members in education settings, schools, universities and government agencies across the nation - and in 25 countries around the world.

We are planning a major celebration of educational research in Australia at our annual conference in Melbourne this year, and we invite all our members to come along and celebrate, reflect and join in the process of building our research community into the next decade. We  are particularly keen to welcome new members to join us before the conference, and access our services and support for research students, early career researchers and our Special Interest Groups.

Our first activity for the year was the National Education Research Futures Summit, which was held at UTS on February 25-26. Over eighty participants from almost all Australian universities attended.  Check out our newsletter and here on the website to see the initial outcomes from this.

We are working this year to build member services and achieve the goals we have planned over the short term.   We have recently activated our member log-in, and we are looking to establish the first discussion groups here on the web site in the near future.   Please feel free to participate, become involved, and enjoy the benefits of collegial interaction and support.  We know you will find it here.

Jo-Anne Reid, President.
