Workshop 2b (2.15 - 4.30) Participatory Action Research in Education

Professor Stephen Kemmis Bio Note
In this workshop, Stephen Kemmis will briefly outline his view of participatory action research in education, especially his views about how action research initiatives open communicative space among those involved. He will then invite conversation with participants about such topics as the nature of participatory action research, doing action research, the use of a participatory action research approach in research higher degree studies, and topics participants may wish to raise. The aim is for the session to be informal, conversational and responsive to participants' interests.
Before coming to the workshop, some attendees might wish to read Kemmis, S. and McTaggart, R. (2005) Participatory Action Research: Communicative Action and the Public Sphere. Chapter 23 (pp.559-603) in Denzin, N. and Lincoln, Y. (eds.) Handbook of Qualitative Research, 3 rd edition. Thousand Oaks, California: Sage.
