Welcome

You are invited to the AARE International Research Conference at the Queensland University of Technology Kelvin Grove Campus to be held on Sunday 30 November to Thursday 4 December.

We encourage presenters to engage with the conference theme of 'changing climates' and how this current social concern applies equally well to education and the various policy, funding, institutional and social domains that shape the work of teachers and educational researchers.

So, what's changing and what can be changed?

What can and should be sustained?

  • Natural and social environments
  • The place of social justice, human rights and ethics in educational markets
  • Global educational trends, debates, philosophies and policies
  • Our communities and the relations between and within them
  • Research climates and the ways in which re

Such changes are not confined to an Australian context. We welcome overseas researchers to join us and share in collaborative dialogue.

Brisbane is Australia's fastest growing capital city. It is young, modern and vibrant the perfect place to implement some 'changing climates' conversations. Subtropical Brisbane in summer might be just the change in climate you are looking for! You will have a choice of the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay Islands and rainforest parks in the hinterland for day trips, and easy access to Queensland's unique attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage listed Wet Tropics in the hinterland. Brisbane boasts international and domestic airports with an efficient train link into the city centre to help start your adventure.

Building on the strong heritage of AARE conferences,

CHANGING CLIMATES: EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURES will be more environmentally friendly, provoke more rigorous debate and sustainable discussions, and raise the bar on quality. The conference will open with a Welcome to Country by local Indigenous people. We warmly invite all education researchers and educators from across all sectors to join us for what promises to be a refreshing, innovative and stimulating conference.

2008 Proposals

To check out the great variety of abstracts which have already been accepted CLICK HERE.

Starting this year, AARE's International Education Research Conference will be using the Open Conference Systems (OCS) facilities for the submission and review of abstracts and papers. Open Conference Systems (OCS) is a free web publishing tool developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) at the Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia. OCS has been taken up worldwide. The move to OCS has meant changes to the submission and review process. Many of you may already be familiar with the process through journal reviewing using OCS's journal counterpart, Open Journal Systems (OJS).

If you are a Track Director or existing reviewer/referee, your details were added by AARE Office to AARE on OCS, and you were issued a username and password to access OCS. This was sent to you by OCS during March/April in a message with the following subject heading: [AARE2008] New User Registration. As noted below, if you are a submitting a proposal or signing up as a new reviewer or referee then you will need to create your own login name and password.

Length of Abstracts 2008

Individual paper abstracts are to be 1000 words. Abstracts for each paper within a symposium are to be 400 words.

Abstracts included in full papers for refereeing are to be 300 words. A full paper refereeing administative fee must be paid on-line.

Submitting Proposals 2008

Late submissions may be made with the permission of the convenor. The steps for submitting a proposal for the AARE 2008 Education Conference are very simple.

  1. Click on the words AARE 2008 Conference Open Conference System [OCS] Proposal Submissions. This will take you to AARE on OCS.

  3. Click on the 4th link called Proposal Submission under Conference Information.
  4. You will be asked to logon here. If you are a nominated Track Director you must use the login name and password sent by the OCS machine. If you are a proposer or new reviewer/referee you must create your own login name and password.
